Addition Maths Kid Grade 2

Addition : Taking numbers together is called addition.
Symbol for addition is + .

 for example 4 + 5 = 9
There are two addend 4 and 5 whose sum is 9.

  • When 0 ( zero ) is added to a number, the sum is the same number.  5 + 0 = 5
  • When 1 ( one ) is added to a number , the sum is the next number . 4 + 1 = 5
  • Regrouping : Writing a number in different way is called regrouping
          For example : 25 Ones = 2 Tens 5 Ones
                                 34 Tens = 3 Hundred 4 Tens

  • Addition of number with carry
When two numbers in ones place are added, the sum may be grater than 9. Then regroup the                sum as tens and ones.

        For Example : Add  87 and 35

7 + 5 = 12  ( 1 Ten 2 ones )  { Regrouping }

                             H  T   O
                                    8 7
                                 3 5
                            __________
Sum                        1    2      2

  • Adding two numbers in any order gives the same sum ( Commutative Property )
              3 + 5 =  5 + 3 = 8

Important : Tell kids ( students) the need for proper alignment of numbers.  Keeping digits in proper places helps prevent errors. Help kids to realise that adding of 3-digit numbers is similar to adding of 2-digit numbers.

Maths Fraction for grade 3 grade 4

A fraction represents  a part of a whole. It is represented by 2 numbers separated by a horizontal line, called a bar. The number above the bar is called the Numerator and the number below the bar is called the Denominator. Fractions with the same denominator are called like fractions. Fractions with different denominator are called unlike fractions. To get fractions equivalent to a given fraction, we multiply or divide its numerator and denominator by the same number. If two fractions have the same denominators, the fraction with greater numerator is greater. Example 5/8 > 3/8 If two fractions have same numerator, the fraction with smaller denominator is greater. Example 5/7 >  5/9                                                           Sum of Numerators Sum of like fractions = -----------------------------...
