A fraction represents  a part of a whole. It is represented by 2 numbers separated by a horizontal line, called a bar. The number above the bar is called the Numerator and the number below the bar is called the Denominator. Fractions with the same denominator are called like fractions. Fractions with different denominator are called unlike fractions. To get fractions equivalent to a given fraction, we multiply or divide its numerator and denominator by the same number. If two fractions have the same denominators, the fraction with greater numerator is greater. Example 5/8 > 3/8 If two fractions have same numerator, the fraction with smaller denominator is greater.
