Articles : "A" , "An" and "The" that are used before nouns are called articles.
" A " and " An" are called indefinite articles.
Article " A " : A is normally used before nouns/words beginning with consonants.
Example : a flower , a chair But " A " is also used before nouns/words with vowels if we hear a consonant sound like a unit.
Article " An " : We use " An " before words beginning with vowel. Example : an apple , an ear But " An " is also used before words with consonant if we hear a vowel sound. Example : an hour
" The " is called a definite article and we use "The " before a name when we mean a particular one. For example "a car" mean any car but " the car " means a particular one only. The is also used before a noun when we use it for the second time with reference to its earlier mention.
For example Delhi is a lovely city. The city is a capital of India.
Important Note : " A " and "An " are used before singular name only, whereas " The " is used before both singular and plural names.
